Simone sat back and studied Drake, picturing him in a suit and tie, and decided he’d look damn sexy. She was more the jeans and T-shirt kind of woman, though, so she was glad he’d left the dark side and joined the world of romance. Besides, a suit would hide way too much of that amazing body of his. Like those arms, for example. If she had her druthers, there would be a law that said he had to keep those muscular biceps exposed at all times. She was tempted to lean over and give them a squeeze, but she resisted the urge and let her gaze wander over his broad shoulders instead. She bet the rest of him was just as ripped.

She blushed at the image of herself running her hands up and down his chest right there in the restaurant where everyone could see.

His words touched me somewhere deep in my chest, and I turned and leaned up on my knees and kissed Mitch. The choppiness of the water made my first attempt fall short, landing on his chin, but my next effort was right on the money. The kiss was brief, yet warmed me inside out.

“You‘re beautiful,” he said.

I didn‘t think I looked beautiful, with my hair all over the place, yet felt like a princess when Mitch told me.

The lake rushed by around us, so rapidly it seemed, I wanted to take a huge paddle and slow everything down, even time. It was all moving too fast. I didn‘t want it to be over.

Love That Can’t Be Denied

In romance, I believe we all enjoy the characters’ inner turmoil, their denial of love or their fear of it.

We’ve all been there. After being hurt in the past, we’re reluctant to offer our hearts again. We tell ourselves that we won’t measure up, we shouldn’t trust or the wonderful feelings can’t possibly last. Yet there we are, falling hard again…and sometimes again.

That’s the emotional impact I wanted to convey in Sensual Stranger, my newest erotic romance released on December 15th.

Toni and Zach, like all lovers, have emotional baggage that’s stops them from a declaration of love. Oh, it’s there, big-time, gnawing away at the wall they’ve built around their hearts.

To show you what I mean, here’s the blub and an excerpt.

BLURB:

Into his life she came—wanting…willing…wanton

It’s no ordinary morning when Toni Starr arrives at Zach’s garage. Flat broke, with a past she won’t share, Toni’s instantly taken by such a potently virile man. Direct and unashamed, she tells him she’s a motorcycle performance artist who needs work and knows motors.

Zach knows women, and Toni’s unlike any he’s met. Lushly sensuous, exceedingly assured, she’d easily be his match in business and bed. A provocative challenge that stirs him as nothing has since losing his wife. A chance he’s reluctant to take, offering no more than a month’s employment, then she’ll have to be on her way.

The hours tick by. Each word and glance intensifies their denied yet escalating desire, forcing them to surrender to passion and Toni’s need for Zach’s dominance. Driven by carnal hunger, conquered by yearning, they face the unforeseen truth of Toni’s past and a future neither of them expected.

EXCERPT:

(Shortly before this scene, Toni and Zach have crossed a crucial bridge in their relationship. They know they’re in love, but can’t quite voice it. When Zach senses Toni pulling away, her leaving him is a reality he can’t tolerate despite his misgivings about going further emotionally).

Sleeping fitfully through the night, Zach didn’t dream, awakening finally with a start.
Sun streamed through the curtains. Squinting at the infernal brightness, he rolled over, his back to the window, his front facing an empty mattress.
At once, panic gripped him. Where is she?
Wincing at the stiffness and pain in his leg, Zach padded into the bath. Dark. Empty.
He went down the hall to his room. She wasn’t in there either, nor in the other guest bedroom. As quickly as his leg allowed, he hurried down the steps, checking the living and dining rooms. Nothing. Nor was she in the kitchen.
Blood pounded in Zach’s ears. His heart drummed so hard he could barely breathe.
Overwhelming helplessness gripped him. An emotion he hadn’t felt for years, not since the morning he’d awakened in the hospital, seeing Em and Hector at his bedside. Listening as they told him about the accident, one he couldn’t recall, battling his mounting horror as they explained Meg hadn’t made it.
Nausea rolled over Zach now as it had then. Toni couldn’t have gone so soon. She had three more weeks to give him so he could become accustomed to her departure, to accept its inevitability. The best thing for both of them once he was certain she’d be safe, her future secure.
Dammit, he didn’t want to be blindsided again!
Hands on the edge of the sink, he lowered his head, recalling the look on Toni’s face last night as she’d read the insurance forms. Had she fled because she didn’t want to fill out the scant personal information the company asked for? Or had he misread her hesitation about her former lifestyle? Was she so eager to return to it, she’d taken off?
Without her cycle.
The thought stopped Zach, then invigorated him. How far could she get without her bike? Unless she’d gone down to the main road and hitched a ride, determined to leave the vehicle behind along with him.
No. He wouldn’t accept such a thing. She’d promised him a month and, by God, he was going to hold her to it.
Ignoring the absurdity of his plan, he pushed away from the sink to go back upstairs and get dressed—to find her.
He’d taken only a step when something in the corner of his vision stopped him. Head turned, he noticed the back door was opened slightly. Padding to it, pushing aside the curtain, he glanced through the glass.
His heart caught.
Stripped bare, Toni lay on top of the picnic table, long rays of sunlight caressing her flesh, her arms above her head. Somehow, she’d wrapped the silk scarf around her wrists and placed the ends beneath a stone lawn ornament, this one of a slumbering cat, trapping her, displaying her.
For him.
Leaving the house, Zach strode to the table, his leg wanting to hold him back. He wouldn’t allow it. Grass and flowers scented the morning air, its temperature already balmy. He circled the table, his eyes feasting on her, his voice tight with a mixture of happiness, fear, melancholy. “How long have you been out here?”
Toni turned her head, following him with her gaze. Unguarded desire sparkled in her eyes as though she couldn’t contain her feelings anymore than he could. Need suffused her voice. “Only a few minutes.”
“You left the bed without telling me.”
At his accusation, her eyes widened slightly. “I wanted to surprise you.”
She’d nearly killed him. He lifted the stone statue and tossed it. The thing landed on the lawn with a muffled thump, leaving a gouge in the grass. Next, he pulled the scarf from her wrists, dropping it on the concrete.
“No,” he warned as she brought down her arms and lifted her torso, attempting to push to her elbows. “Stay where you are.”
She settled back down, her voice edgy with excitement, fingers skimming her naked thighs. “What are you going to do?”
Enjoy her for every second she was here and try to forget her after she left. An absurd idea Zach needed to embrace. He didn’t want anything to ruin the moment, especially not reality. He’d had too much of that shit these past years. He couldn’t stomach a moment more.
“This,” he said in answer to her question, lowering his head, brushing his lips over hers.

Wake-Me-Up Wednesday

Alex O'Loughlin

Australian born Actor
Fansite #1
Fansite #2

To me, it doesn't get much better than this: a native Australian with an Irish surname. So, let's think about this for a moment.

O'Loughlin is the anglicized version of O'Lochlainn, which means grandson or descendant of Lochlann. Hmm...Does anyone know a person named Lochlann? I certainly do. Which is another reason I jumped at the chance to feature this guy.

And now, here's the big question for the day....Could Alex be the great grandson of our beloved Dægan Ræliksen? *snicker* All right....so I'm dreaming. But hey, do you blame me?

Happy Wednesday!
